Timing
speed slalom
Designed trackside by a French national team coach: free start, knockout, split times and tracking for every skater.
A discipline decided by hundredths
Speed slalom is skated on a line of 20 cones spaced 80 cm apart, on one leg. Between two skaters, and between two runs by the same skater, the gaps are counted in hundredths.
In training, a handheld stopwatch cannot tell you whether a change in technique, positioning or equipment really saves time. Timing gates can.
Timing modes
The skater goes when ready; the timer starts as they pass the first gate.
Two skaters side by side, to practice head-to-head racing as in the finals.
Back-to-back runs for the whole group, with everyone’s history and records.
What timing lets you work on
- Separate the run-up from the line: one gate before the first cone and one after the last isolate the time through the cones.
- Compare two options: two line entries, two skate setups. Do several runs of each and compare the averages, not a single attempt.
- Track consistency: the gap between the best and worst run in a set says as much as the record.
- Work on the start: a few timed meters in a straight line for the physical side.
The same gates also work for straight-line sprints and for every roller discipline where you go from one point to another as fast as possible.
What is in the box
- 4 wireless gates, battery-powered, with built-in tripod and dual infrared sensor.
- ±1 ms accuracy, 8+ hours of battery life.
- iOS and Android app: athlete profiles, records, history, time trial, free start, start on a sound signal from the phone and knockout modes.
- Set up in about 30 seconds, with no cables on the track.
